COLEMERG – An indictment has been prepared against a specialist sergeant accused of assaulting a 10 year old child named E.T. and breaking his arm, on charges of “intentional injury”.
In Colemêrg (Hakkari), on August 13, the specialist sergeant allegedly assaulted 10-year-old E.T. after the child accidentally hit his spouse while riding a bicycle, breaking the child’s arm. The indictment, prepared by the Hakkari Public Prosecutor’s Office, was accepted by the Hakkari 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.
The indictment, which includes the specialist sergeant’s initial statements, highlights the medical report obtained for the child. It noted that E.T. had an open fracture in his arm and stated: “The impact of the bone fracture on vital functions is severe. Whether it constitutes an injury causing permanent weakening or loss of the function of a sensory or organ will be determined by an examination at least six months after the incident. Review of the security camera footage shows that the suspect, İbrahim Sarı, entered the Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate garden with his spouse and two children, followed immediately by E.T. riding his bicycle into the garden. It was also noted that the cameras covering the incident location were not operational due to maintenance work.”
	‘SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE OBTAINED’
The indictment emphasizes that the specialist sergeant committed the alleged crime. It states: “As a result of the investigation, considering the victim’s statement, the complainant’s testimony, witness statements, the suspect’s defense, forensic reports, and the entirety of the case file, it is understood that on the day of the incident, the suspect entered the Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate garden with his spouse and children, and the victim child accidentally collided with the suspect’s spouse and children with his bicycle. The suspect, in anger, panic, and under unjust provocation, acted by throwing the victim child to the ground and injuring him, as stated in the forensic report. Sufficient evidence has been obtained to warrant a public prosecution against the suspect.”
The first hearing in the case against the specialist sergeant is scheduled for February 25, 2026.
