WAN - Stating that "equal and free" conditions must be provided for Abdullah Ocalan, who is the interlocutor in the solution of the Kurdish issue, lawyer Cemal Demir emphasized that both the problem can be solved and the isolation can be abolished with a joint struggle.

The absolute isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who is held in Imrali Type F High Security Prison, continues. There has been no news from Ocalan since his intermittent phone call with his brother Mehmet Ocalan on March 25, 2021. The "Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, solution to the Kurdish issue" campaign, which was launched globally to end the isolation imposed on Ocalan and ensure his physical freedom, continues all over the world. Prisoners in prisons have been boycotting the courts since April 4 and not make phone calls or meet with their families.

Cemal Demir, a member of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (OHD), who met with Abdullah Ocalan on Imrali Island 7 times between 2008 and 2011, evaluated the absolute isolation.

'IMRALI IS A SYSTEM THAT SWALLOWS THE LAW'

Demir emphasized that the isolation in Imrali is unique in the world. Demir said: "Injustice, arbitrariness and tyranny have been the management style in Imrali Prison. For this reason, it has been called the 'black hole of law' by legal circles. Because the system on this island is a system that swallows and destroys the law."

'THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE SOLUTION IS OCALAN'

Stating that Kurds see Abdullah Ocalan as the architect of the democratic solution to the Kurdish problem, Demir said: "The famous Kurdish sage Ehmedê Xanî has a saying; 'In this time, everyone is the architect of their own wall.' The Kurds have chosen Ocalan as their architect in the solution of the Kurdish issue. Millions declared him to the world as a political architect. It has also become a public symbol of the Kurds. Therefore, he is the one who should be addressed in resolving the issue. At this point, the Turkish state mind has completely surrendered to security policies as it has closed the door to a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue. As a result of this, it cuts off Mr. Ocalan's contact with the outside environment by continuing the isolation practice and even turning it into absolute isolation."

'THE ACTIONS MADE A VOICE'

Referring to the action initiated with the demand to end the isolation and ensure Ocalan's physical freedom, Demir said: "At the point of solving the Kurdish issue, of course, the interlocutors must be in equal and free conditions. If there must be Turkey on one side and Mr. Ocalan representing the Kurds on the other side; 'Equality and freedom' is an indispensable rule at this table. By not approaching a solution, the Turkish side causes crisis and chaos in the Middle East and blood loss in four parts of Kurdistan and the country. Due to this, some actions and activities are carried out by many groups. Hunger strike action launched in prisons, Justice Watch action and Freedom March action are also actions taken in this context. All three protests were very loud."

THE IMPORTANCE OF 'STRUGGLING TOGETHER'

Emphasizing that the people's struggle together will contribute to the democratic solution of the Kurdish issue, Demir said: "It will also end the isolation, which is a fascist and unlawful practice. Carrying out civil disobedience actions such as the Justice Watch and the Freedom March will put the issue more on the world agenda. On the other hand, more efforts must be made to develop international diplomatic relations and ensure that it is discussed in the assemblies and parliaments of the countries.”
