'Trustee' tweets from Gül and Davutoğlu 2019-08-19 15:39:23 ANKARA - Former President Gül and Former PM Davutoğlu, criticized the dismissal of HDP Mayors. The two former prominent figures of the AKP criticized the dismissal of three mayors, saying it is "against democracy." The 11th President, Abdullah Gül has issued a statement on his Twitter account regarding the dismissal of the mayors of Diyarbakır, Van and Mardin by the Interior Ministry.   In his tweet, Gül said, "The dismissal of the newly elected mayors 'in this way' has not been right for our democracy."   Former PM and former Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, who is working on forming a new party, said on his Twitter account:   "The dismissal of Mardin, Diyarbakır and Van mayors, who took office with the recent elections, by administrative decisions, is contrary to the spirit of the democratic system.   "Those who come by an election leaving by an election is a requirement of the principle of national will.   "If it is against the law for candidates to enter the election, the Supreme Election Council should consider it before the election. Of course, necessary measures can be taken regarding crimes committed after the election. However, the legal requirements must be established before the judiciary.   "What is essential is the right to elect and be elected. This decision will not contribute to social peace, but it could also undermine the fight against terrorism. The most effective political fight against terrorism is not by eroding democratic representation, but by entering the hearts of the nation and winning elections."
