Attacks against Alevis increase due to impunity' 2020-10-21 12:10:42 ANKARA -  HDP Peoples and Beliefs Commission made a statement about "death to Alevis" written on the garden wall of an apartment in Pendik said: "Politicalized judicial decisions that consider insults against Alevis within the scope of freedom of thought encourage the attackers".   Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Peoples and Beliefs Commission made a statement regarding the "death to Alevis" written with a cross on the garden wall of an apartment building in Pendik district of Istanbul where Alevis live. In the written statement signed by the Deputy Co-Chair of the Commission Tülay Hatimoğulları, it was stated that 'Threats and attacks against Alevis are getting more and more serious everyday.'   The statement emphasized that the attacks have increased due to impunity , and continued: "Those who carry out these threatening attacks against Alevis continue because of the impunity, because they are not even investigated. Politicized judicial decisions, which consider insults against Alevis within the scope of freedom of thought, also encourage the attackers."   'DECISIONS OF MASSACRES AGAINST ALEVIS PROTECT THE PERPETRATORS'   Reminding that the perpetrators of the Maraş, Çorum and Sivas massacres were not punished, the following was stated: “In a country where even the murderers are not punished, the threats against Alevis continue to increase day by day due to the comfort of all kinds of hate crimes and insults against Alevis. The decisions that protect the perpetrators force Alevis to live in the country under great concern. The most important reason for the increase in verbal, written and physical attacks against Alevi citizens is the discriminatory political language and the ineffectiveness of the public authority of the one-man regime against hate crimes committed. We are expecting that the attackers who carried out this attack in Pendik, Istanbul to be found immediately and prosecuted, and once again we strongly condemn the attack."
